Taking Back the Common

In this circle we gathered around the ancestral fire and seek inspiration from their stories.

There were some very dark times in recent human history. In my (Nicola's) book. The Path to Forgotten Freedom, I talk about the trauma our ancestors experienced during the Industrial Revolution. But, through this darkness, incredible things were birthed from working-class people.

In this circle, I shared three inspiring stories of actions that people did here in Lancashire during the 18th and 19th centuries that changed the world. I then lead a guided shamanic journey to find our inspiration through these stories.

The transcript of the circle is below.

The timings are: (to be added by the end of today)

- (06:00) - welcome and opening the circle

- (16:00) - talk and ancestral story sharing

- (1:01:19): guided shamanic journey to the Upper World

- (1:23:50): sharing

- (1:43:13): announcements - online retreats and Earthlight full moon launch

- (1:51:07): closing the circle

Kett's Rebellion was a revolt in Norfolk, England during the reign of Edward VI, largely in response to the enclosure of land. It began at Wymondham on 8 July 1549 with a group of rebels destroying fences that had been put up by wealthy landowners.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kett%27s_Rebellion

19:41:00 From Fiona Merritt to Everyone:
Kett's Oak at Hethersett, Norfolk still stands according to Heritage Trees of Britain and Norther Ireland (published in 2004). This is where Kett made a rousing speech that was the start of the Norfolk uprising.
19:42:28 From Miranda to Everyone:
Reminds me of The Diggers too. Lovely song about this story.
19:42:36 From Paulina to Everyone:
Just imagine how much more attached to our land we would be if history was taught like this of our local lands and legends instead of the corporate syllabus they want us to learn and swallow.
19:42:47 From Lorna Smithers to Everyone:
Smithills Estate is still there isn't it?
19:43:30 From Helen Greenhalgh to Everyone:
It is Lorna. Part has been converted to housing, but yes it is lovely.
19:43:59 From iain bell to Everyone:
know of this tree Fiona but unsure if I have been there to the oak or not it's far where I live
19:44:12 From Lorna Smithers to Everyone:

19:51:21 From Paulina to Everyone:
tha did har lad - well dun!
19:51:34 From Tracey Woodley to Everyone:
So interesting. It just shows what can be achieved when everyone comes together in a common cause. You're right Nicola, history in school was skewed towards progress nothing was mentioned about the personal cost and hardship.
19:51:40 From rachael in London with -‍⬛&- to Everyone:
We had a local history walk yesterday and learned so much about where I’m living now… there were many “famous” and a couple of “infamous” locals - we had a nearby workhouse as well as a TB hospital, a piano factory and a convent to name just a few of the things we learned about
19:52:16 From David Hignett to Everyone:
I knew your Book would be good: I had not known it would be so brilliant. It resonates with many bits of my ancestral past. I think of oppressing/oppressed, controlling/controlled, abusing/abused. We each have some of both in us ……….
19:52:45 From Sandy Holt to Everyone:
It's all so fascinating… whetted my appetite to find out more about local land rights. x
19:52:48 From rachael in London with -‍⬛&- to Everyone:
The playground came about because of the local parents making it clear that it was needed for the children

19:56:50 From Miranda to Everyone:

19:57:26 From Ali to Everyone:
Blue is taking back his ground!
19:57:32 From Katrin to Everyone:
I think he’s making a peaceful protest
19:57:46 From iain bell to Everyone:
Actually I believe I know Oak well local people in our Tribe tie offerings to the Branch's and I referred to the Oak in the past as my Great Spirit Oak
19:57:47 From Beverley Luke to Everyone:
I love this cat rebellion!
19:57:48 From Annkat to Everyone:
love Blue ❤️
19:58:09 From Helen Towers to Everyone:
Blues face is brilliant 🤣😘 Telling you notes not necessary
19:58:30 From Miranda to Everyone:

19:59:09 From Rachael Halliday to Everyone:
He’s got his eye on us!!
19:59:19 From Sandy Holt to Everyone:
Blue is hysterical ! xx 🙂
20:09:40 From iain bell to Everyone:
Unsure if all can hear very faint on my mobile but I'm not journeying as just finished tea now
20:09:54 From iain bell to Everyone:
Jason my Friend
20:11:16 From Tina to Host and Panelists:
a bit more feedback now but don't think you have much choice!
20:26:36 From Ali to Everyone:
Images of machines, the noise. There are those that would make hell on earth for their fellow humankind. Terrible things done, the suffering. But no one owns the land. Gather and sing praises on the moor.
20:26:38 From Tina to Host and Panelists:
I'm off now. xxx
20:26:42 From Ali Broughton to Everyone:
I had a Tiger accompany me and we walked down an alleyway to what felt like the entrance to a carnival. Here we both climbed into a singing bowl and stayed there for the duration. I'm quite tired tonight so not sure what else was happening but tiger and I were running around the bowl
20:26:42 From Red to Everyone:
I seem to have witnessed the Storming of the Bastille. Then went back into the woods. A tad quieter there.
20:26:43 From Karen C to Everyone:
Sadly I was getting to much distortion and breaking up from my internet connection, so no journey for me. Still, I enjoyed watching Jason drum 🙂
20:26:45 From Jude to Everyone:
That was brilliant Jason, thank you x The organic drum is very special … with added technical harmonics xXx
20:27:10 From linda to Everyone:
Too much distortion unfortunately
20:27:13 From Pam Butterfield to Everyone:
on this occasion it was brilliant. distorted, but the journey wax a
20:27:40 From Ali Broughton to Everyone:
oh yes please!
20:27:48 From Lorna Smithers to Everyone:
I gave a 'flower of appreciation' to the trespassers on WInter Hill. Drum beat was good for me - felt more organic.
20:27:51 From iain bell to Everyone:
I hope theses Journey aswell as y could with the reply Jason Nicola will their be an Audio track if not I will use one from the Mystery school Tomorrow Morning or late in the Week?
20:27:56 From Ali to Everyone:
Love the idea of being in a singing bowl!
20:28:30 From jackie kersley to Everyone:
Too much distortion for me, so I did some gentle floor yoga instead. X
20:28:43 From Linda Lipinski to Everyone:
Thank you
20:28:52 From Tracey Woodley to Everyone:
Squirrel joined me this evening. The message I got was, take the common back for me means stand your ground, stand up for what you want.
20:29:25 From Ali Broughton to Everyone:
So do I ha ha x
20:29:40 From Carolyn to Host and Panelists:
I dont think I journeyed, distortion was distracting me but I started to see a view through my fathers eyes when he was a boy on the Isle of Wight and the German gun ships were just off the coast during the Second World War
20:29:45 From Fiona Merritt to Everyone:
I had an amazing journey with Brown Bear. I went to Victoria Cave near Settle. We sat around a fire with the Ancestors from long ago. There was story telling around the fire. We sang and spoke of reclaiming the land again. Witnessing the stories added to their power and helped bring momentum to them. The stories lit up in the flames.
20:29:47 From Beverley Luke to Everyone:
Met by hedgehog again at the tree - along with my friend Rod - who passed away in July - he's often there waiting for me.
20:29:51 From Miranda to Everyone:
I was with fox. We travelled on Owls back. Then I went to Foxs earth and curled up and healed. I saw crowds of people walking on the Moore. Then David Hockney appeared and told me to paint my Mandalas and the pictures of cauliflou
20:30:02 From TC to Everyone:
Too much distraction for me,so I’ll catch up tomorrow.
20:30:05 From Paulina to Everyone:
Well done Jason, when the going gets tough, the tough get going. Resilience, determination - true grit keep going
20:30:07 From Rachael Halliday to Everyone:
I was called back after a minute or two by one of the cats and by a neighbour knocking. It was lovely to be embraced by Jason’s drumbeat and our great big circle. Thank you everyone x
20:30:10 From Ali Broughton to Everyone:
That is lovely, Beverley!
20:30:13 From Brenda to Everyone:
Told not to chase my inspiration. Everything is connected and I don't need to understand my place. let it happen.
20:30:15 From Miranda to Everyone:
cauliflower fields from Thanet which are being built on.
20:30:15 From Irene Beldon to Everyone:
I found wolf waiting for me, rewilding and returning to the land
20:30:37 From kathycar to Everyone:
Will listen the replay, it was too distorted
20:31:08 From Ann to Everyone:
I met a man and young woman, she died in the cotton mill, remember horror stories told by my mother and others who still worked in the cotton mills when I was a child. They soon were closed for catalogue mills.
They were happy to see me as they were ancestors, acknowledging their suffering and looking to what is happening now and to carryon supporting poor.
20:31:29 From Annie to Everyone:
I was also very tired , but I felt an intense thirst that I've never felt before. I came back with a squirrel. Not sure how much was dozing or journeying.
20:31:40 From Paulina to Everyone:
It was both = everything happens for a reason
20:31:54 From AnnyTurner to Everyone:
I enjoyed the drum. I can't understand it but Robin accompanied me and we flew over the Moors , just flew over the Moors but I got the impression that people were so brainwashed that that they lost all power of thought for themselves and those who still retained their sense of self were the ones who could go forward and do good things for their fellow man. I heard 'Many fences can be erected but the land belongs to those through whose veins the blood of the land runs'
20:32:01 From Helen Greenhalgh to Everyone:
I will look forward to the replay, but found the stories very inspirational Nicola thank you, and love being part of this circle
20:32:46 From Rod & Diane to Everyone:
Went deep but distortion distracting.. think I was onto something so will do replay. ..unless something comes in the meantime as it sometimes does! This topic was also powerfully in my mind from before tonight so will see what happens!
20:33:04 From Karen Francis to Everyone:
I was linked in arms by Grandmother and Gt Grandmother- two Millicents! Then saw lines of ancestral hearts going back in time, linked by a needle and thread -felt I need to 'sew' their stories. Near the end I was gifted a big bag of Werthers Originals?! are these synonymous with Lancashire or Manchester? as my GT x 3 Grandad was born there .
20:33:44 From Sandy Holt to Everyone:
Bear arrived and then an owl before you said owl then the owl turned into a buzzard who whisked me into the sky then I was stright back in my room. I felt I had to get up and my cat Oberon was standing at the top of the stairs i went up and he needed settling. Just felt that I may have been visited during while the journeying was going on and all will be apparent later. It was really weird but I don't think I actually journeyed. although I think a message came and Oberon felt it. Maybe an ancestor? Sxx
20:33:54 From Pam Butterfield to Everyone:
the distortion on this occasion was fantastic, because it felt as though the modern tech failed, Jason stepped in and we journeyed in spite of it, we can move through because the power of us to do this together is stronger
20:34:18 From iain bell to Everyone:
Let's reclaim Our Ancient Ancestral Lands of Our Tribal Lands of Albion for us All to Enjoy been a very interesting topic tonight Jason and Nicola and for me nearly on the Edgy for me!!!
20:34:21 From Ali Broughton to Everyone:
that is very interesting, thank you Nicola 🙂
20:34:24 From Miranda to Everyone:
Brilliant point Pam.
20:35:10 From Lois C to Everyone:
Loved the live, spontaneous drumming. Thank you, Jason! Journey brought strong, embodied sense of people making their own way and deciding, choosing. Not waiting for a template that's already there but having the courage, claiming the right to create what isn't "authorised".
20:35:14 From iain bell to Everyone:
but good really good as Acatvisim can make feel uncomfortable!! as I feel boreding to close Politics that I don't like to do a tall!!!
20:35:26 From Sandy Holt to Everyone:
In hindsight maybe Bear is telling me to be still and quiet to hear and feel.
20:36:25 From Paulina to Everyone:
I've started to use the dark moon phase to do that - taking the time before the new moon to allow the darkness and stillness to allow things to surface - and they usually do. We are in that phase right now 🙂
20:37:35 From Linda Lipinski to Everyone:
I sat on a hill and watched a murmuration of birds with a rook sitting on my broken foot and it pecked on it which made my foot twitch and feels less painful now
20:38:55 From Ann to Everyone:
I thought Yorkshire but not certain.
20:39:29 From Ali to Everyone:
The original Werther's Original were German! (Just Googled).
20:39:52 From AnnyTurner to Everyone:
YaY Pam!
20:40:10 From Matt Booth to Everyone:
The Pennines are easy to remember. there's Yorkshire and then there's The Dark Side 😉
20:40:30 From Jill Robinson to Everyone:
Werther’s Originals were invented in the little town of Werther in Germany in 1909.
20:40:54 From jackie kersley to Everyone:
I wasn’t able to journey, but while I was at the axis Mundi a goat appeared and said this will be tricky. 😂 I’ll try again on the replay.
20:41:52 From Lesley to Everyone:
Think I fell asleep.....
20:41:57 From Ann to Everyone:
The dark side of Yorkshire?
20:42:39 From Karen Francis to Everyone:
wow thanks, I'll see if a German connection turns up in my ancestral research
20:43:42 From AnnyTurner to Everyone:
I think its interesting that people can look into their areas to which they belong and look into the past.... I don't feel I belong anywhere as I have moved around a lot ...I wondered if this goes back a long time ago into the ancestors?
20:43:52 From iain bell to Everyone:
